BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Board of Education has voted to proceed with contract negotiations with an architectural firm to design two new schools.

One of the schools would serve grades Pre-K through 8th, and the other would serve grades 9th through 12th. The reason for the project is to help alleviate overcrowding in the fast-growing Bluffton community.

The new Pre-kindergarten through 8th grade elementary school would be located on property that the district owns on Davis Road near the intersection of the Bluffton Parkway and Highway 170. That school's enrollment would be 1,200 students.

A new high school on property the district owns in the new Riverside area would serve grades 9th through 12th, and would have its own auditorium, sports teams and extracurricular programs. That school's enrollment would be 1,400 students.
