War hero opens up business in Springfield to help others

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A war veteran who has served and been injured in Afghanistan and traveled the country to help veterans has set up a business in Springfield to continue his work.

Nick Colgin was serving overseas as an Army medic when he earned a Bronze Star for saving a French soldier.

Only a few weeks later, his Humvee was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.

When he came home, he realized he wanted to continue helping fellow vets.

"I came home in 2008, I couldn't spell my own name, I couldn't walk without a cane and could barely speak. I had to have some surgeries on my face and so I was a helper, and I needed help. This was a natural evolution to get back into helping others again," Colgin said at the launch of his business Thursday night.

His business is called Right At Home and aims to help veterans and seniors get services.
