POOLER, GA (WTOC) -

Maj. Gen. Scott Vander Hamm, commander of the Eighth Air Force, was in Pooler Thursday to visit the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force.

Vander Hamm took command approximately two weeks ago and this is one of the very first things he wanted to do.

"Many of those who have served in Eighth Air Force over the years have told me for those who are serving now, remind them of the heritage and the legacy of valor of the men and women that served when the Eighth Air Force stood up in WWII, and I wanted to come to the museum where it all started," he said.

Vander Hamm is the 15th commander of the Eighth Air Force and is currently stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana.
