Marathon gives Savannah businesses a boost

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Rock ‘n' Roll Marathon may be an inconvenience to some locals trying to get downtown Saturday, but businesses say the economic boost it provides is well worth it.

Friday night, a rocking preview shut down Broughton Street, with local band Bottles & Cans playing a free concert.

Corleone's Italian Restaurant was packed, with runners carb-loading before the big game. Restaurant owner Erik Seymour said it's his busiest day all year, a pasta equivalent of Black Friday.

"We cooked, I believe, 90 or 100 pounds of spaghetti, about 50 pounds of fettuccini, tons of lasagna," he said.

Pedicab drivers also are getting ready for a big day, with vehicle traffic tied up downtown.

"Count on tomorrow being pretty busy, with a lot of people just worn out from running 26.2 miles as I can imagine," Pedicab driver Erik Seymour said.
