Port Clinton teen succumbs to cancer

PORT CLINTON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

People across the country have reached out and brought an early Christmas to a boy in Port Clinton who has now sadly passed away.

Devin Kohlman, 13, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Doctors said he may not make it to Christmas, so his family and friends and even strangers brought Christmas to him.

Cards, gifts and donations poured in from all over the country. Port Clinton residents decked the town in lights and holiday cheer; they even brought artificial snow. Classmates held a pep rally for Devin and the mayor declared Oct. 31 to be Devin Kohlman day.

On Monday, Nov. 11, Devin's grandmother told Toledo News Now that he passed away. Now friends and strangers near and far will be thinking of Devin and his family during this difficult time.

The town gathered for a vigil Monday night at the park near Devin's home.

"We thank Devin for showing us what a true fighter is. It's ironic that today happens to be Veterans Day. Devin, you are a soldier," Mandy Rohde read part of a prayer from the vigil. "We have all grown to love you and will always continue to pray for you."

Hopefully the last few weeks were filled with holiday cheer for Devin.
