JROTC participates in Savannah's Veteran's Day Parade

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Margaret Kemp has been going to the Savannah Veteran's Day Parade for 11 years. It's a family affair.

"My son was in the ROTC, my daughter was in the band, so I'm here for my youngest daughter as she's marching in the parade as well."

Her daughter, Kristen, who is in her third year of JROTC at Groves High School, almost didn't march.

The Savannah-Chatham Board of Education straightened out a concern over moving JROTC commanders from a 12-month pay schedule to an 11-month one.

That shift caused some confusion, that students wouldn't be able to march in the parade because their adult commanders wouldn't be marching either.

However, the school system ultimately said the commanders will be able to swap out Monday with another day, which was a huge relief to parents like Kemp.

"So glad they got that all ironed out so the young people have an opportunity to come out and support like they always have done."
