Rincon woman arrested for fraudulent charges with stolen credit cards

The Rincon Police Dept. arrested Bettye Medders, 58, of Rincon on Nov. 5 after it was discovered that she made multiple fraudulent purchases over the Internet.

The purchases were made with multiple stolen credit cards with card holders living in states as far away as California.

The purchases were all made through online retailers.

Medders purchased laptop computers, flat screen televisions, jewelry, furniture and other items with high resale values. The items were recovered at her Rincon residence.

Some items were scheduled to be delivered out of the country, and were believed to be going to Ghana, Africa.

Medders was charged with two counts of each of the following: first degree forgery, second degree forgery, financial transaction card fraud, financial ID theft, financial ID fraud and theft by deception, all of which are felony charges.

Medders is awaiting arraignment with possible additional charges following.
