Bama hosts Texas Tech in Big 12/SEC Challenge game

(RNN) - Texas Tech travels to Alabama for the first game of the Big 12/SEC Challenge, with tip-off slated for 8 p.m. ET at Coleman Coliseum.

All 10 of the Big 12's teams will face 10 of the 14 SEC teams in the annual event.

Alabama's home opener will be broadcast on ESPN2. Alabama is 0-1 after a season-opening loss to Oklahoma.

Former Kentucky Coach Tubby Smith is in his first year as head coach of the Red Raiders, who are off to a 2-0 start with wins over Houston Baptist and Northern Arizona.

Both teams have been led by excellent scoring from junior college transfers.

Alabama got 20 points out of newcomer Algie Key in its season-opening loss to Oklahoma. Key is a 6-4 guard out of Barton Community College.

Robert Turner, the first player Smith signed when he took over, comes from New Mexico Junior College. Turner is averaging 16.5 points and 3 assists. He had 12 points against Houston Baptist then hit 21 against Northern Arizona.

Last year in Lubbock, TX, Alabama beat TTU 66-62.

Alabama continues its home stand on Monday, Nov. 18 against Stillman in the NIT Season Tip-Off. Arizona, Duke and Rutgers are the other top seeds in that tournament.
