OKATIE, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred at the Callawassie General Store at approximately 10:40 p.m. Wednesday night.

A 34-year old female clerk said that just after 10 p.m. a white male armed with a knife entered the store and approached her at the register.

The suspect demanded money, but the clerk had already dropped all of the cash from the register into the safe. While the suspect inspected the bank bag, the clerk had time to retrieve her own handgun.

Upon seeing the gun, the suspect fled the store without having stolen anything. The clerk was unharmed and there were no customers present at the time of the incident.

The suspect was described as a white male between 24-28 years of age, approximately 5'8 and 180 pounds, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, baseball hat and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to contact either Investigator Cpl. D. Nelson at 843.255.3212 or CrimeStoppers.
