Demery Bishop bids farewell to CrimeStoppers


After 14 years as the head, and face, of CrimeStoppers in Savannah, Demery Bishop said goodbye Friday.

Local, state and federal peers and friends paid tribute to bishop at a retirement celebration at the Savannah Civic Center Friday afternoon.

Bishop came to Savannah in 1999 and helped build and transform the CrimeStoppers program and turn it into what it is today.

He also paid trtibute to his team, whom he credits with helping him along the way.

He says that, while he'll be spending time with his family on Tybee Island, he won't be far away in local authorities need his help.

"I don't know what's next," Bishop said. "We'll see, but I know I'll be teaching at Armstrong. I will still do that, but CrimeStoppers has been an absolute delight."

Bishop said he would like to see the next police chief continue to hold CrimeStoppers as an asset.
