How much food do you waste a year? If you feel like it's a lot, you're not alone.

The average family of four wastes more than $2,000 a year worth of food. Experts say there's a variety of reasons for that.

Luckily, with proper planning, you can start saving money and stop wasting food.

"It's always a good idea to buy what you're going to need and use and to think about quantities and buy of course what fruits and veggies are in season," said Jackie Ogden of the University of Georgia.
