BRUNSWICK, GA (WTOC) -

Brunswick police have arrested a man who was shot last week on attempted robbery charges.

Police responded on Nov. 11 to the 1700 block of Stonewall Street. Marvin Smith III was shot in the abdomen.

He was taken to South East Georgia Regional Medical Center and was unable to answer questions from detectives for several days due to his medical condition, according to police.

A man who identified himself as the gunman contacted detectives, according to police. Jarrell Warren, of Brunswick, told detectives that Smith had tried to rob him at knifepoint on Nov. 11. Police said Warren said he used self defense in the shooting.

Warren's statement was corroborated by a witness to the attempted robbery. Detectives secured warrants for Smith III on charges of criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and criminal gang activity prohibited.

Police said Smith was arrested at 4:53 p.m. on Nov. 17 by Brunswick police without incident.

No charges have been filed against Warren.
