Bluffton citizens frustrated over noise ordinance

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

In the Lowcountry, dozens of Bluffton citizens spoke up Wednesday night about the town's lack of a noise ordinance.

The public session lasted an hour and a half as people stepped up one by one to address the Bluffton Planning Commission at Town Hall.

Among the suggestions people made were to cut off the loud music at 10 p.m. instead of midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, ban outdoor music altogether or have the homeowners move.

"The residents would like the same rights as others in Bluffton, the right to a quiet enjoyment of their property," said Bluffton citizen Stephen Loper.

"So I would just ask that maybe we could just try, as a community, to cut the music off for four or five days and see what happens," added resident Harper Finucan.

Bluffton Police also conducted a survey which found that more than 50% of people agreed there is a noise problem, particularly on Thursdays through Saturdays.
