SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metro police say a canine officer was injured while chasing a suspect.

Police say someone saw William McKenzie, 26, of Jesup, trying to break into a house on Holiday Circle Tuesday afternoon.

When officers arrived at the scene, they say McKenzie took off. SCMPD K9 officer "Toro" managed to catch him, even after officers say McKenzie struck Toro with a pool cue.

Investigators believe McKenzie is responsible for at least one other burglary on Holiday Circle.

K9 officer Toro is expected to be OK.
