BAXLEY, GA (WTOC) -

A Baxley man accused of murdering his wife before lying to police by claiming that two men broke in and tied them up, is expected to be in court Monday.

The attorney for Jonathan Courson has filed several motions expected to be heard at 1:30 p.m., including a motion for a change of venue.

Jonathan Courson is charged with the murder of his wife, Mandy. He was indicted in January on charges of malice murder; felony murder; aggravated assault; making a false statement; tampering with evidence; reckless conduct and insurance fraud.

According to the indictment, Mandy Courson had been strangled with a rope and that Courson looked to collect life insurance funds fraudulently.

The Appling County Sheriff's Office said that on Jan. 4, Courson made up the story about two men invading his home, tying his wife up and killing her while their daughter was upstairs asleep. Five days later, Courson turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued.
