Old Augusta Road reopen after deadly crash


All lanes on Old Augusta Road South at Fort Howard Road are now open after a three-vehicle crash closed both lanes earlier this afternoon, according to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor said officers and deputies arrived in just a few minutes and tried to pull one of the victims out of a vehicle. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Deputies responded to a three-vehicle crash with an entrapment and vehicle on fire," sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor said. " ECSO has confirmed one fatality and several injuries."

He said there are some other injuries, but nothing appears to be life-threatening at this time.

"It appears that a driver in one vehicles ran a stop sign on Old August Road south at Fort Howard Road," he told WTOC.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
