I'd Pay for That: Crowdfunding boosts online fund-raising

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Websites such as Kickstarter, Donors Choose, and GoFundMe are changing the landscape of fund-raising, and long gone are the days of going door to door to raise money for a cause.

Kinte Taylor, a teacher at Savannah Arts Academy, uses Donors Choose to raise money to help buy expensive equipment to prepare his students for the real world. He says with so many cuts in public education, digital donations help tremendously.

"It helps alleviate cost for not only the family, but also the teacher and the school," Taylor said.

Renee Langston, 43, is trying to fulfill her dream of becoming an attorney, but lost crucial scholarship money this year after she quit her fulltime job to go back to school. She's now trying to raise money to finish her Associate's degree and move on to her Bachelor's.

"I think people are going to see my story and see a little of themselves and go, you know, her goal is very clear. She wants to be an attorney."

Despite having different goals, both Taylor and Langston agree they would not be able to achieve their goals without technology.
