Military Salute: Fourth Infantry Brigade Combat Team

Posted: Updated:

The families of 300 soldiers have even more to be thankful for this holiday season.

Monday night, the Fourth Infantry Brigade Combat Team, known as the Vanguard, returned home from a nine month deployment in Afghanistan.

With each step they took, the anticipation from the crowd grew larger at Fort Stewart.

It's been a long time since these family members have seen their loved ones face-to-face.

"So excited, I'm burning over with excitement right now. It's going to be a happy holiday this year," said Nicole Roberts.

"I just want to see him, I just want to make sure he's home and that he's home safe," added Rose Boyd.

Those wishes were fulfilled last night as 300 soldiers from the Fourth Infantry Brigade Combat Team arrived home safely from Afghanistan.

After a brief ceremony which included the uncasing of the colours, the moment finally arrived.

Some posed for pictures while others just couldn't let go of their loved ones.

This is the sixth return for the group and the timing of this homecoming couldn't be better.

"I plan on going out to eat and enjoy my family. I'm happy to be back. I'm happy that all the soldiers are back with their families and God bless everyone," said Sgt. Jarmal Sledge, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

Welcome home military veterans of the Fourth Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

We salute you and thank you for your service!
