Savannah shoppers enjoy Small Business Saturday

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

As the Black Friday craze calmed, the weekend of shopping continued as people set out for Small Business Saturday.

For four years now, American Express has pushed the event to support the local shops lost in the commotion of the Black Friday hype, but even the shoppers say there's a benefit to the smaller store.

"There are a lot more unique things at smaller businesses because at big department stores everything is so generic. At small businesses, you can really find something that's better for you. And something that other people won't have," said Catherine Mauldin, a shopper in town from Columbia, SC.

For the small businesses in Savannah, like the Men's Store by Joseph, it's been great for holiday sales.

"I think it promotes downtown businesses," said owner Joseph Dabit. "We really need the local customers to come downtown. We do plenty with tourists, but we need a lot of locals to come down."
