Open vote allegedly not taken for Beaufort marina project

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort Redevelopment Commission may have violated state law in how it selected the group chosen to redevelop the city's marina parking lot.

On Nov. 12 the city announced it had chosen Historic Marina Partners as the company who would be responsible for drawing up a plan for the redevelopment of the 4.2 acre marina parking lot.

The commission allegedly talked to the group about the project before the formal selection process started.

According to Jay Bender, an attorney for the South Carolina Press Association, the commission should have held an open vote on whether to give the firm the vote before any suggestions were made.

Historic Marina Patners is a partnership between The Furman Company and Chaffin Light Management.
