Support the United Way of the Lowcountry on 'Giving Tuesday'

Tuesday, Dec. 3 is "Giving Tuesday", a national movement aimed at giving back to your local community.

You could be the one to help the United Way of the Lowcountry reach their annual fundraising goal for the first time in years.

Whether it's early literacy or hospice care, The United Way of the Lowcountry knows no boundaries when it comes to helping those in need.

"Giving is so important. Honestly, our community could not survive without philanthropy," said Tina Gentry, President & CEO of the United Way of the Lowcountry.

Back in September, the non-profit organization launched a $2.3 million fundraising goal for 2013.

So far they're on track to reach their 80% mark by the end of this week.

You have a chance to help them finish strong today.

"This is the first time the United Way has had a Giving Tuesday. We're very excited, everyone who has given, we're asking to give an additional $10 on "Giving Tuesday," added Gentry.

The organization's "Operation Holiday Heroes" program, which collects toys for children, is one of the many tangible ways your donations can help.

"There's going to be a lot of kids out there that might not wake up to Christmas presents under the tree if the community doesn't rise up to support the program," said Chrystie Turner, director of Allocation and Community Engagement.

With the community as their backbone, The United Way of the Lowcountry believes they can not only reach their fundraising goal, but also make this Christmas a memorable one for many families.

From now until January 31st, the United Way of the Lowcountry is making every Tuesday "Giving Tuesday."
