SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police said a Savannah man shot himself in the pinky on Monday and lied to officers about it.

Police said Deaussey Ladarius Mungin, 21, was arrested and charged after being chased down by officers and a Liberty County sheriff's detective who joined the pursuit.

A violent crimes detective responded at 7:23 p.m. Monday to Memorial University Medical Center to investigate Mungin's report that he had been shot by someone in a passing car. He had used a fictitious name and Islands Precinct officers could not find a a crime scene where he had said it occurred, according to police.

Mungin was asked to submit to a gunpowder test when the detective saw the injury was consistent with a self-inflicted wound. He instead checked out of the hospital and was not treated. He was wearing a sweatshirt he had brought with him. He ran when a  magazine gun dropped out from the sweatshirt.

Officers apprehended him. Police said two baggies of marijuana were found in his pocket at the time. He was also wanted for probation violation under his real name. He taken back to the hospital for treatment and then taken to the Chatham County Detention Center.

Mungin is charged with false report of a crime, false name/address to police, obstruction, possession of marijuana and probation violation.
