RICHMOND HILL, GA (WTOC) -

On Dec. 2, Byran County Sheriff's Dispatch was notified of a possible murder suicide in the Main Street subdivision in Richmond Hill.

Richmond Hill Police responded and discovered the deceased bodies of 8-year-old Michael Cyrus Green and his mother, Ivette Christine Green, 40.

Both died of apparent gunshot wounds.

The husband, Michael Green, left for work at approximately 8 a.m. Monday and received a text message from his wife to return home. When he returned to the home, he discovered the bodies and called police.

The investigation by Richmond Hill Police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is still ongoing and autopsies are underway, but all evidence leads investigators to believe that the mother shot the child and shortly took her own life. She left a note at the scene of the incident.

Neighbors say the couple had not been together and the wife and son just recently returned to Richmond Hill. The son was not enrolled in Bryan County schools.

The family of the woman has still not been notified because they are estranged and live outside of the country.

WTOC has also learned that the father, Michael Green, is a soldier at Fort Stewart with the Third ID.
