Family of missing Bluffton woman speaks

Posted: Updated:

The family of Margarita Gonzalez, the Bluffton woman who went missing Sunday, said it's not like her to go days without talking to them.

According to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, Gonzalez and her boyfriend, Osman Escobedo, were last seen at a her grandson's seventh birthday party at her house.

"Everybody was just here relaxing and chill," said Jonathan Manrique, Gonzalez's son.

The last time Manrique saw his mother was approximately 3 a.m. Sunday. He said she and Escobedo were having an intense conversation.

"Prior to her disappearance there had been some domestic issues with her boyfriend," said Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson, Robin McIntocsh.

"He was acting weird about something," said Manrique. "But the guy seems like a nice person."

Escobedo's roommates tell investigators they haven't seen him since he left their apartment Saturday evening.

Investigators said Gonzales is considered a missing and endangered person at this time, bcause they're not sure what happened yet.

Monrique said he knows there's more to this, because his mother wouldn't just leave.

"She's always worried about her children and how we're doing and she's always calling like every couple of hours," said Manrique

He's fearing the worst, but he's trying his hardest not to.

"I want to make sure she's okay. Hopefully she'll be back home with us safely," said Monrique.

Deputies are looking to question Escobedo, and they're asking anyone with information to contact them, or call crime stoppers at 1.888.CRIME.SC.
