Sheriff's Office seeks dad after child found living in filth

Posted: Updated:

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A 3-year-old was found living in filthy conditions, according to police, after EMS was called to a home on Fawn Vista Drive near Surfside Beach.

They were called because the child's mother went into labor. Now, the child's father, 24-year-old Joshua Jordan is wanted for unlawful neglect.

According to the Horry County police report, on the morning of March 7, the mother was going into labor and reportedly belligerent. The report says the mother wanted police to take the child to a friends, and when they went to gather clothes for the toddler, they found the filth.

The report says there was a sink full of dirty dishes with mold growing on them, bugs moving in and out of the kitchen cupboards and a bathroom with feces and urine clogging the toilet. The report says officials also found hypodermic syringes and other drug paraphernalia.

"Anytime a police officer enters a residence, and there is food and dirty dishes and feces and on top of that the mold and the air quality, police are going to act," says Sgt. Jeff Benton of the Horry County Sheriff's office.

Jordan was arrested for neglect, but he never showed up for court. He reportedly told police the drug paraphernalia wasn't the couple's and that they were not always living the home with the child. He also told police the landlord left the mess, and he was in the process of cleaning it up.

"With all his excuses that he hasn't done anything wrong, then why did he fail to appear for court?" says Benton.

DSS didn't return our calls for more information on this case, but the report shows the agency removed the child from the home and then went to Conway Hospital to get the newborn. There is no record of arrest in the system for the mother.

Authorities want you to call them if you have any information that can help them track down Jordan. Call the Horry County Sheriff's Office at 843-915-8347 or contact Horry County Dispatch at 843-248-1520.
