Gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen visits businesses

Posted: Updated:

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Vincent Sheheen spent the day in the Lowcountry visiting with business owners.

On one of his stops, the Sea Pines Center, he talked about his support for small businesses in the state. He says one of the ways to turn the state around is to "support and invest in and help the infrastructure that supports small businesses accross the state."

A spokesperson for Governor Haley said, "Vince Sheheen's vision for South Carolina is a nightmare for our small businesses. That was the case four years ago, and nothing has changed."

Sheheen also talk about South Carolina's unemployment rate. He blasted governor Haley on the topic a few months ago, saying her administration was doing nothing to improve unemployment in the state.

A recent report shows that South Carolina's unemployement rate is the lowest it's been in five years. It's currently 7.9 percent.

"The unemployment rate across the country has gone down, and I am thrilled that in South Carolina we've seen it go down with the rest of the country," Sheheen said, today. "That's a great thing, but there's more to do."

He says he's the man to do it. Haley and Sheheen will face off during next year's election.
