SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Runners were welcomed bright and early Saturday morning for the Annual Enmark Savannah Bridge Run.

Thousands of athletes took on the Talmadge Bridge, which has a grade of 5.5. Participants ran, walked, or crawled their way through the various races, which included a 5K, 10K, double pump, and a kid quarter mile. Runners had the choice of once, twice, or three times over the bridge.

"Well, I recently moved to Savannah, and it's my birthday, so I thought, what better thing to do than meet some of these Georgia peaches up on the bridge," said bridge runner, Madge Haven.

When asked how the run felt, Haven replied, "It was much harder than I thought, even the beginning was hard, even going downhill was hard."

There was also a costume contest for runners. All proceeds from the race went towards the Nancy N. And J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion at St. Joseph's/Candler.
