Compassionate Friends Savannah Chapter gathers together

Posted: Updated:

Members of the Savannah Chapter of the Compassionate Friends participated in the 17th Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting event on Sunday night.

The event is designed to honor the memories of all children, regardless of age, who have died. Hundreds of these organized memorial services happened around the world Sunday night.
The gathering is believed to be the largest mass candle lighting in the world.
Organizers said that it is a way to grieve with others who have gone through similar experiences.

"The biggest thing that hurts parents when they lose is a child is, they're so afraid their child will be forgotten, and it's a legacy, and we say as long as we live, our child will live, and as long as we love, our child will be loved," said Mark Rambis, Co-Leader of the Compassionate Friends.

The Rambis' founded the Savannah Chapter of the Compassionate Friends back in 2011, after they lost their own son to an accidental drowning. Candles will continue to be lit across the world at each 7 o'clock hour.
