SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah State University's Department of Public Safety along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating a sexual assault and armed robbery incident on campus.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. Thursday near the University Commons. The incident report says there were two female victims in their early 20s.

Campus police sent out an alert to students and faculty at about 6 a.m. that same day notifying everyone that they received a report of an armed robbery and sexual assualt. The alert says two students were transported to Candler Hospital for treatment.

The incident report also says the suspect stole some items including a nintendo, nintendo games, and a cell phone.

For students like T'Ajah Crawford, hearing about any criminal activity on campus puts her on high alert.

"It's kind of scary because when you're on a college campus you're supposed to feel safe. I always keep my phone on me and I always walk around in groups with my friends," said Crawford.

Just a day before that incident, another student reported a simple battery to campus police.

University police tell us they are investigating the separate incidents, and right now they do recommend walking in pairs and keeping an eye out for anything suspicious. Anyone with information about the incident, can contact campus police at 912.358.3004.

"It's the utmost importance for individuals to feel safe and comfortable as well as students to go to class and live on campus and be comfortable," said Edward Jolley, the Vice President of Business and Financial Affairs.
