Investigation into armed robbery, sexual assault continues

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah State University police are investigating an armed robbery and sexual assault.

It happened at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday. An alert went out to students and faculty less than three hours after the incident. Police said it happened in a unit in the University Commons housing complex.

Two female students in their early 20s were transported to the hospital for treatment. Campus police are urging students to use caution, be alert and to report any suspicious activity.

"I think they should at least have a partner or three when they're walking the campus. We at Savannah State think it's a pretty safe campus, but being the way it is right now in the world I think we need to take more caution when we walk around campus," said DPS Deputy Chief of Police Keith Hayes.

No arrests have been made yet, but university Police said they are looking at a few suspects.

Campus police have posted stickers that has an emergency phone number for the campus police.
