Neighbors not surprised after deadly shooting

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened Saturday night on East 39th Street. Three people were shot but neighbors tell WTOC, they aren't surprised.

Nettie Ellison says in the 41 years she's lived on this street, she's watched the neighborhood take a turn for the worse. She says she was inside her home when she heard four gunshots right across the street.

The gun shots killed Hector Brown and wounded Fred Stringer and Jerome Polite. The injured men reported that a man in a pickup truck pulled up beside their car and started shooting.

When it was all happening, Ellison said she and her daughter took cover away from windows in case their house became a target but she says this is nothing new.

She keeps her doors locked and won't let her grandchildren play outside since her neighbor's son was shot and killed.

"I don't want them outside, you know," said Ellison. "No telling who's walking the street or where they are going to be and someone comes by firing a gun, I don't want them in the mix of it."

Police are still investigating, if you have any information call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637).
