Effingham County schools have a 2014-2015 school calendar in place after a little bit of controversy.
It seems faculty and the board were happy to compromise. The main issue was whether to have soaring break before or after Easter.
Teachers wanted it before to give students more time to prepare for CRCT exams, but after a survey of the public and faculty...majority wanted after Easter and that is what the board went with. It still gives teachers a week with students before testing begins.
Superintendent Randy Shearouse said everyone is satisfied.
"We just wanted a little time to review a little bit of time to get ready for the test you can imagine to teach to student is done out of school for a little bit of time traveling they come back they are not ready to take a test by the time they come back so they like that time to help get them back in the mode of school and back in the test taking form they need to be in we feel like this is a good calendar we do," Shearouse said.
Another date that will remain a day off St. Patrick's Day. In the past, the district did not take it off and saw low attendance because of the celebration in Savannah. So it will be a holiday once again in 2014-2015.
