SC SLED Investigates Confrontation Caught on Camera

Posted: Updated:
HARDEEVILLE, SC (WTOC) -

The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division is investigating a confrontation between a few Hardeville police officers and a Hardeeville city council member during an investigation.

Neither SLED nor the Solicitors office comments on pending investigations, but we do have the most important piece of evidence; the entire dispute was caught on camera.

A video taken Nov. 10 inside the Hardeeville Citgo off exit 5 captures a confrontation between law enforcement and  Hardeeville city council member Sal Arzillo, according to police.

In the video you can hear the officer say, "We're trying to be nice about it, but you're being very rude at the moment."

Arzillo then responds, "No, you're being very rude when you put your hand on me." The officer goes on to say, "I didn't touch you. My hand was blocking the door. "

Hardeeville police says this was an operation to investigate illegal gaming, drugs and alchol sales inside the store.  Council member Arzillo tells us he came down to the store after he received several calls from concened citizens, including the store owner.

Arzillo tells WTOC he did not appreciate the officer putting his hand on him, and once the officer stopped, Arzillo says he left.

No word yet on if any charges have been filed.
