Does Savannah need a new stadium?

From September: So are the Sand Gnats actually leaving Savannah to head up the road about two and a half hours? 

The recent talk of the current Minor League team moving has come up again, this starting from an article on BallparkDigest.com, saying the mayor in Columbia, SC, is wanting the sand gnats to move there.

Earlier Wednesday, many of the city officials were out taking a look at four sites for a new possible arena.

It was a topic at Wednesday's City Council workshop. The Sand Gnats are proposing multi-purpose stadium for sports, concerts, events and more at portion of  Savannah River Landings of President Street.

Sand Gnats call the new stadium plan Savannah Riverfront Park. Team officials said it would turn the river landing site from a revenue drain to revenue source.

The total cost of build out for proposed Savannah River Park is an estimated $35 million. Hardball Capital and Sand Gnats would be looking for $1.6 to 1.9 million a year for 30 years from the city for Savannah River Park

The city has told the group that's proposing Savannah River Park that the city is stretched too far already, but they will listen and get recommendations.
