Theft occurs at building site for new fire station

LADY'S ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

More than $15,000 worth of equipment and building materials were stolen from the construction site of the new Lady's Island/St. Helena Fire District headquarters.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft, which was discovered Wednesday morning. A representative of one of the victims, Pender Brothers Inc. told deputies that he went to the job site at about 8 a.m. Wednesday and saw large amount of copper piping was gone.

Most of the pipe work that had been installed in the struction had been cut out of the ceiling, according to the BCSO.

A representative of another victim Quality Electrical Systems told deputies that when he got to the job site he discovered a lock had been cut off and removed from a company work trailer at the site. The trailer had several rolls of wiring, a hammer drill and accessories and extension cords stolen out of it.
