CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Public Information Officers from around the area are learning how to make sure their community is informed.

The Chatham County Public Information Officer's first Winter Conference gave those who deal closely with the media to learn from one another, especially during high profile cases.

Speakers included David Ehsanipoor with the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, who talked about the Heidt murder case from 2008, and the public information officer for the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, who talked about the George Zimmerman trial.

"We have very strong support in Sanford and in Seminole County, there are very strong relationships with other law enforcement agencies, faith based groups and other private entities so we really came together to make sure we were able to put our best foot forward and that things went smoothly," said Heather Smith with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

WTOC's News Director, Jan Smith, also spoke at the event about building relationships with local media.
