Holiday shopping continues, less than 2 weeks until Christmas

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Holiday shoppers are feeling time-crunched.

There are less than two weeks before Christmas, shoppers are hitting the stores over the weekend, some, were making up for lost time. Others said the tighter shopping window instead motivated them to start earlier than usual, and they were working to wrap up gift buying by Sunday. There are six fewer days this year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, then in 2012.

Consumers are far more price conscious than they were even five years ago. You may have also noticed more traffic around town; many shoppers are traveling into town to get their holiday shopping done.

"It's always more hectic, it's kind of nice on Sunday because it's a little bit more relaxed than Saturday. We always kind of wait... you know... delay things a little bit, but it's been great and we like to come to Savannah a lot we actually enjoy the atmosphere here. I mean we are half way between here and Jacksonville. This is a much warmer friendly environment. I mean both are good shopping, but we especially love the clothes here, said holiday shopper Robert Lamore.

The average holiday shopper had completed half of their shopping, slightly less than the 56% they completed by this time last year, according to a national retail federation survey. The results show 14%, about 32 million Americans, hasn't started, while nearly 9%, about 20 million, are already finished.
