44 firearms stolen in storage unit burglary spree

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

Forty-four firearms were among the items stolen earlier this month when 56 storage units were broken into at the Atlantic Self Storage facility in Beaufort.

The Beaufort Sheriff's Office is investigating the break-in and theft that occurred at 10 Self Storage Road. It happened between 6 p.m. Dec. 1 and 7:45 a.m. Dec. 2.

Suspects broke into the business by cutting a chain-link fence around the self  storage facility, causing an estimated $500 in damages. Surveillance video and alarm sensors were also destroyed, resulting in about $2,100 in damages.

The units' padlocks were cut off of each unit and left open. In one unit, 44 firearms and the gun safe were stolen. A Vietnam era attack knife was also taken.
