Deputies investigate attempted robbery at Family Dollar

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted robbery at the Family Dollar, located at 791 Sea Island Pkwy., which occurred Sunday just after 6 a.m.

Deputies made contact with a 50-year-old female employee that said that an unknown suspect had attempted to rob the store.

The victim said she had just arrived to the store and was unlocking the front door when an unknown black male suddenly approached her with a handgun.

The suspect put the gun to the victim's neck and forced her inside the store, and once inside the suspect ordered her to show him where the safe was and to disable the security system. The victim complied but was not able to prevent the alrm from sounding.

The suspect fled the store without stealing anything. The victim was unharmed and she immediately called 911.

The suspect was described only as a black male wearing a maroon hooded sweatshirt, which was pulled over his head and concealed his face.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to contact either Sgt. J. Kelleher at 845.255.3418 or Crimestoppers.
