BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting incident that happened in a Beaufort neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., deputies responded to Beaufort Memorial Hospital in reference to the arrival of a gunshot victim. Deputies made contact with an 18-year-old male who was being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim said he was walking to Polk Village with a female friend at approximately 2:40 p.m. As they approached the area of Centerview Drive and Second Street, they saw several unknown black males standing in the street.

The victim said that gunshots were suddenly heard, causing him and his friend to flee in separate directions.

The victim ran toward Westview Avenue and realized that he had been shot in the leg. He was unable to find his female friend, so he called another friend to transport him to the hospital.

The victim was unable to provide any further description of the subjects he saw in the area just prior to the shooting, and no witnesses were located.

The victim received non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released.

The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to contact either Investigator Sgt. J. Gobel at 845.255.3421 or Crimestoppers.
