A Baxley man accused of murdering his wife before lying to police claiming two men broke in and tied them up is expected to be in court Tuesday.

An arraignment hearing for Jonathan Courson has been scheduled for Dec. 17 at 11 a.m.

Courson is being charged with the January murder of his wife Mandy while his young daughter was sleeping upstairs. He was indicted in January on charges of malice murder; felony murder; aggravated assault; making a false statement; tampering with evidence; reckless conduct and insurance fraud.

According to the indictment, Mandy Courson had been strangled with a rope and that Courson looked to collect life insurance funds fraudulently.

Witnesses statements, including from Courson's family members and pastor, two bankers and an insurance agent, will be among the testimony. Courson reportedly had several loans on cars he did not own and he closed all bank accounts he held with his wife the Monday after her death while also trying to claim an insurance policy.
