Low-speed vehicle fight continues

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Several people who once worked at the shuttle service Savannah Hopper - are out of a job.

It was the owner's worst fear when the city of Savannah said that basically his motorized carts were illegal under state law. The law also said local municipalities can make their own rules for motorized carts and low-speed vehicles.

Charlie Brewer has been running his business for a little over a year now - and says the city should have known the state law before giving him his license. The city has threatened Brewer with citations if he continued running the shuttles, so he had to let some of his drivers go.

Savannah Hopper is still open for business and Brewer continues to fight for it. An ordinance has not yet been drafted after two public hearings in November.
