Memorial Health, Novant Health partner for children's hospital

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Memorial Health officials announced Wednesday that it is partnering with Novant Health to establish a freestanding children's hospital in Savannah.

The new facility will be named The Children's Hospital of Savannah.

The $28 million project will be located in the building that houses Memorial's Rehabilitation Institute. The new children's hospital will include all pediatric inpatient units, pediatric intensive care unit, a two-room surgical suite, pediatric ancillary services, a 24-hour emergency department dedicated exclusively to children and an area for family members, according to a Memorial news release.

Memorial Health and Novant Health will share strategic planning and governance duties over the facility. Memorial keep managing operation and  provide executive leadership for The Children's Hospital of Savannah.

"Since 1992, Memorial has been the leader in children's healthcare in southeast Georgia," said Maggie Gill, president and CEO of Memorial Health, in a statement. "This collaboration will create a new and unique presence for our children's hospital, bringing together more than 20 pediatric subspecialties under a single roof."

"We are excited to partner with Memorial Health to grow clinical services and create a destination location for children's healthcare," said Carl S. Amato president and CEO of Novant Health, said in a statement. "This partnership demonstrates our ongoing support of Memorial Health and Savannah."
