ABC agents: Moonshine found in nearby storage after bust

LOWNDES CO., AL (WSFA) -

Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control agents say they have found completed moonshine in nearby storage after Wednesday's bust. The storage contained 29 gallons of finished moonshine along with various instruments to produce moonshine.

The Lowndes County Sheriff's Department and the ABC located and destroyed the illegal operation Wednesday after it was discovered in Collirene. Officials say this is the second operation they've found within a one mile area within the last month.

The illegal whiskey operation is said to have consisted of 13 barrels of moonshine.

Police say the water source that was supplying the operation came from a garden hose connected to a nearby house. That hose ran into nearby woods where it was feeding a cooker.

"Seventy to 80 percent of accident fatalities in the state of Alabama and this county comes from alcohol," Sheriff John Williams said. "You got this moonshine and someone comes in, and drinking this moonshine, it can make them very intoxicated."

Authorities destroyed all components of the operation, but there have been no arrests made at this point.

This is the 3rd moonshine operation the departments have busted in 2013.
