Fort Gordon to house new Cyber Command post

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

The U.S. Army will open a Cyber Command center at Fort Gordon, according to a press release from Fort Gordon.

The new CYBERCOM post will address the increased frequency of Internet and computer-based threats to national security, officials said. It will centralize the command of cyberspace operations, organize existing cyber resources and synchronize defense of U.S. military networks.

Barrow, as well as Georgia's U.S. Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson and U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, praised the Army's decision to locate the CYBERCOM post at Fort Gordon.

"Fort Gordon is the best location to establish a new cyber command for the U.S. Army," Barrow said. "With current operations, Fort Gordon already has the infrastructure to house Army Cyber Command, and is a logical choice to expand its cyber mission."
