Closing arguments expected to begin in murder trial

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Closing arguments have not yet started in the murder trial for Shan Cheley.

Cheley is charged with murder in the September 2012 death of 18-year-old Amber Deloach. He's accused in the rape and slaying of Deloach and putting her body in the trunk of a car and lighting it on fire.

The judge and attorneys are going over things before the jury is brought in.

If convicted, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Police released surveillance video last year asking the community's help to identify the man that bought a cigarette lighter and gasoline at a BP station.

Investigators say the man in those surveillance photos is Cheley.

When investigators brought Cheley in for questioning, they didn't tell him what it was about. They asked if he went to the BP station on that September day.

At first Cheley denied he was there and later changes his story, the video shows.
Investigators say Cheley admits that it was him walking in the video.

But the strongest evidence so far that connects Deloach with her accused killer is video the prosecution showed surveillance video in court on Thursday.
