STOP sticker helps parents monitor teens driving

Parents who want to know how their teen is driving have a new tool in Statesboro. Police offer a STOP (Solicitor Teen Officer Parent) sticker for teen's rear window.

"If we stop a car with one of these stickers, we notify the parents who registered the car," explained Officer Justin Samples. "We tell them where, when, why we stopped them and whether it resulted in a citation or a warning."

In addition, police tell the parents how many passengers their teen was carrying. Samples said the distractions caused by too many passengers can cause problems for young drivers. The free program launched weeks ago, but some parents are just discovering it.

"This is a very good idea and I'm registering my daughter today," said Shantell Childress.

Parents interested in registering for STOP can contact Statesboro Police at 912-764-9911.
