SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Spokesman Julian Miller confirmed Interim Police Chief Julie Tolbert has put Sergeant Laprentice Mayes on paid leave.

Mayes filed a harassment complaint against former Chief Willie Lovett just before Lovett's abrupt retirement.

In the complaint, Mayes says his wife, officer Trina Mayes, was having an affair with Chief Lovett and that the Chief refused to give him better assignments and promote his wife because she cut off the affair.

Miller said he could not release any more information about why Mayes was placed on leave because it is a personnel matter.
