SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A 4,000 mile journey to raise awareness came to an end on Saturday on Tybee Island.

A Wisconsin athlete spent four months on a bicycle trip to raise funds for the Bryon Riesch Paralysis Foundation.

Patrick Reilly began his epic ride on Aug. 22 in Washington state and legged his way over the Rocky Mountains in November. He was inspired to make the journey by fellow Wisconsinite, Bryon Riesch, who is paralyzed from the chest down.

Reilly said that Cross-Country Trip was the "challenge of his life," but it pales in comparison to the challenges faced every day by those suffering from total or partial paralysis.

"Just the happiness and joy and a sense of accomplishment, and then the ability to help Bryon Foundation is huge. I just found out when I talked to Bryon on the phone that we raised $8,000 today. It is pretty incredible," said Patrick Reilly, Riding for Charity.

The organization has made a tremendous impact on the lives of thousands of individuals affected by paralysis. It also supports the latest medical research with the goal of finding a cure.
