SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Saturday marked 90 years ago that the Episcopalians of Isle of Hope in Savannah decided it was time to have a church of their own.

It was the Feast of St. Thomas, therefore, the church was named St. Thomas. The church was built for $2,800 dollars on two lots that were donated for the purpose of establishing the parish.

Parishioners gathered in what is now the Chapel of St. Thomas to celebrate the founding on Saturday.

"Since 1923, we have been in this location and have been worshipping, praying, working, helping our community; we are blessed and happy to celebrate 90 years," said Fr. Richard Nelson, St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
